Fall 2006

Once again the leaves are beginning to change colors. We have made it through another busy spring and summer. Now it is time to prepare for winter. We are well stocked with everything needed for the Professional or the do-it-yourselfer to clean up the leaves and handle whatever Old Man Winter has in store.

To help promote our winter products we are hosting our 1st Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday November 18th. We will feature Honda, Toro, Woods and BerVac snowblowers; Honda and Winco generators; and our newest addition: Meyer Snowplows and Sanders for trucks. As an introductory special we will install all new truck plows sold during the open house for free (a $300.00 value). We will also have one day specials on generators and walk behind snowblowers. Please join us as we get ready to take on Old Man Winter. Lunch is on us.

Some of the best news this fall is the reduction in fuel costs. Almost everything in the state is dependant on fuel to run it, move it or heat it. Inexpensive energy makes the economy grow and we are glad to see fuel prices dropping.

FALL CLEANUP

Whether you are a landscaper or a homeowner, Union Farm Equipment, Inc. has the tools to make fall cleanup easier. We are well stocked with blowers from Echo and Billy Goat. We also stock leaf vacuums from Billy Goat and, of course, mower bagging systems to help pick up the leaves.

MEYERS

Union Farm Equipment, Inc. is pleased to announce that we will be selling, installing and servicing Meyer's plows and sanders for trucks as well as tractors. Meyer has introduced their ROC warranty, which covers 3 years on all components and 5 years on structural steel. If you are contemplating a truck plow or sander please give "The Friendly Folks" a call. Check out the Meyers web site.

FUEL BUGS

There are over 100 types of microorganisms that can live in diesel fuel. We did some online research and came up with a number of reasons "why", but the short version of the story is... if your tractor has been loosing power and the fuel filter is plugged with green, brown or black slime you may have "Fuel Bugs". Until recently the existence of algae in diesel fuel has been limited to warmer climates. It has become increasingly important to reduce emissions in diesel engines. In order to reduce emissions we have changed diesel fuel. The use of cracked fuels, low sulfur fuel, engine heaters and other factors have increased condensation in diesel tanks and promoted the growth of algae.

Recently, we have seen several issues of microorganisms in diesel fuel. The problem of "Fuel Bugs" has been uncommon until recently. Using a biocide, fuel conditioner, and changing fuel filters (possibly even repeating the process) can eliminate the problem. We are now stocking fuel conditioner and biocide from Power Service. If you are having these problems please contact our service department for more assistance. For more information please click here.

SERVICE

Now is the time to get your tractor, snow blower and generator ready for winter. Our mobile service van is available to come to your site. We are offering our "We Care Winter Care" program for snowblowers and generators. Please give the service department a call (1-800-935-7999) to schedule an appointment. It is also the time to put your mower away for the winter. Proper storage will ensure a long life for your mower. Take the time to clean the deck, stabilize the fuel and make any needed repairs now.

Gasoline storage is still an issue. We have more problems with equipment that was improperly stored than any other cause. We recommend running the carburetor dry before storage, using fuel stabilizer in all gasoline-powered equipment and keeping the tank full to minimize fuel problems. Most importantly exercise your equipment. Run the snowblower in the summer, run the generator monthly, and start the lawn mower in the winter. Not only will you use up some of the old gas, but also your neighbors will get a good laugh. Remember, however, "He who laughs last, wins". Your equipment will run when you need it!!

PARTS

Whether you are getting your equipment ready to use this winter or getting it ready for a long winters nap, we have the fluids, filters and additives to keep your equipment running smoothly. Before the temperature drops please check your battery and starting system. We have batteries in stock to fit most tractors and outdoor power equipment.

When was the last time you checked and/or changed antifreeze? Antifreeze not only protects against freezing, it also protects the cooling system from corrosion and lubricates the water pump. The additives in antifreeze wear out over time. Kubota recommends changing antifreeze every two years. We stock antifreeze, coolant checkers, coolant conditioner and radiator cleaner. If you do not have the tools, knowledge or time to check your equipment before winter, why not call our service department. Our mobile technicians will be happy to stop by and make certain your tractor is ready for winter.

We recommend genuine OEM filters and lubricants for all of our equipment. Why take a chance on second-rate parts and oils in a quality machine? Spending a few dollars more will give you the proper lubrication for the critical parts in your tractor.

SNOW

Have you grown tired of replacing sod and raking gravel off the lawn every spring? Do you have no place to push snow? Perhaps it is time to get a snowblower. A snowblower does not need lots of space to pile the snow and it is ready to clear the driveway when you are. And, with the skid shoes properly adjusted, you can leave the gravel where it belongs -- on the driveway. We offer walk behind snowblowers from Toro and Honda as well as mounted snowblowers for lawn tractors and compact tractors. Check out Toro and Honda.

We also offer snow blades for compact tractors from Meyers. These are available in 5" to 8" widths and can be pinned to the loader or mounted to a skid steer quick attach. Rather than overloading your truck with a plow just to do your own driveway why not mount the plow on your tractor. A tractor is more maneuverable, has better visibility and can raise the plow higher (to stack snow) than most trucks. More about Meyers.

Perhaps the ultimate snow fighting combination is a tractor with a front end loader and a three point hitch snowblower. No matter what the winter brings you will have the tools to keep the driveway clear. Woods.

BACKUP POWER

Don't be left in the dark. Whether is hurricanes, blizzards, ice storms, rolling blackouts, or even squirrels? Union Farm Equipment, Inc. has the knowledge and the equipment to help prepare you for the next power outage. We are the largest generator dealer in the mid coast. We are well stocked with standby and portable generators, set up and ready to work. A generator is cheap insurance against frozen pipes, spoiled food, health issues, or just the inconvenience of a dark house. If you are waiting for the next power outage before purchasing your generator, be sure to get here early. No matter how large our inventory, we always seem to sell out when there is a sizable power outage. If you are preparing now for the next outage be sure to stop by and talk with us about your needs so we can help you choose the right generator for your application. Remember the generator needs a properly installed transfer switch to be safe, convenient and legal. More about Honda Power Equipment.

If you are already enjoying the peace of mind a generator offers, don't forget routine maintenance. Generators should be run regularly and serviced annually (more often when they are being used). The typical home generator has more problems from a lack of use than from overuse. We have instituted the "We Care, Winter Care" program to service portable generators on an annual basis. Please call our Service Department to schedule an appointment to have your generator serviced.

FIREWOOD

Even though gasoline price are going down, more and more people are turning to wood to heat their homes. If you have a woodlot the cost to heat your home can be reduced significantly by doing it yourself. We have everything the homeowner needs, EXCEPT TIME, to produce their own firewood. We have winches, peaveys, wood splitters, wedges, chainsaws, safety apparel, grapples, log arches, chainsaw accessories, and a whole lot more. Visit our logging site at Union Farm Equipment - Logging.

The growth in sales of outdoor wood furnaces has created a demand for larger wood splitters. Timberwolf has responded with a TW2-36. This unit features a 9 hp Honda engine and will split a 36" long log. Timberwolf introduced this unit for the value conscious consumer who did not need one of their commercial grade 36" splitters, but who wanted a quality machine, which would last for many years. Timberwolf.

TIRE CHAINS

If you have suffered through winter slipping and sliding we may have the answer. Nothing gives traction on ice and snow like a good set of chains. We have tire chains in stock to fit tractors, lawn tractors, pickup trucks, and snowblowers. We are offering 10% off all in stock chains for a limited time. Be sure to plan ahead before Old Man Winter shows up again. Visit our chains site at Union Farm Equipment - Chains.

We have found the Hakki ice chains to be superior to the competition when traction really matters. http://www.unionfarmequip.com/store/chains/hakki.html If you have a tractor with 24" or greater rear wheels and need better traction try a set of Hakki chains.

YEAR END

Now is the time to talk to your accountant. It is possible that a purchase this fall could help significantly lower your taxes. The tractor or excavator you have been considering may be a better deal than you thought. We think it is a GREAT idea.

FINANCING

It is time to stop dreaming about new equipment. Interest rates on new and used equipment are reasonable. In many cases we even have interest free financing. Whether you need a snowblower, generator or tractor we have the financing options to make your dreams come true.

KUBOTA

Kubota is offering instant rebates on the Grand L-30 tractors and the B-30 tractors. If you have procrastinated, now is a great time to get that new tractor. Kubota even has 0.00% financing for 36 months. Even better, Lawn and Garden equipment and the BX-series qualify for 0.00% for 36 months and NO PAYMENTS FOR 6 MONTHS. And to help fit that new tractor into your budget, Kubota is now offering 96 month financing on many models. More about Kubota financing.

NEW HOLLAND

New Holland is offering their Value Bonanza program with low rate financing or cash back on most of their tractor models. For the month of October most compact tractors qualify for 0.00% financing for 36 months. The TC40 gets one better with 0.00% for 48 months. See our tractor pricing at Union Farm Equipment - Tractor Prices.

To help sweeten the deal New Holland will start the warranty next spring on all hay equipment purchased during Value Bonanza. Over the years we have positioned ourselves to become the preeminent outdoor power equipment dealer in the state of Maine. We have consistently avoided hidden fees and charges. We do not charge document fees or dealer prep on new equipment. We do not charge for delivery on most items in our local area. Our new equipment is sold full of fuel, set up, tested and ready to work. And we discount most items every day. And, as always, we will credit your account $50.00 for every person you refer to us who purchases a new tractor here.
