Inverter Generators
Tip 0033

Traditional portable generators require the engine to run at 3600 rpm in order to maintain 120 volts and 60 cycles (normal household power). The use of an inverter allows the engine to change rpm based upon electrical load. Because the generator is not running at full speed most of the time an inverter is quieter, more fuel efficient and should last longer than a traditional generator.

For several years Honda has produced 1000, 2000 and 3000 watt inverter generators. These units have been popular for camping because they are lightweight, fuel-efficient, and quiet. Honda has now added a 5000 and 7000 watt inverter generator to their line.

Anyone who is relying on a generator for backup power will appreciate the features of the inverters. It is possible to watch TV or read a book with the generator running at an idle. When the well or the furnace requires power the engine will speed up and provide the power needed and then drop back down to a low rpm. This same feature will benefit contractors when they are sporadically running power tools.

Please come in and listen to the difference between the new inverter generators and the traditional generators.
